Hiltraud Casper-Hehne

Hiltraud Casper-Hehne is Vice President for International Affairs of the University of Göttingen as well as Professor in the Department of Intercultural German Studies. She currently serves as member of the Board of Directors of the European University Network U4Society (Ghent, Göttingen, Groningen, Uppsala, Tartu), as a member of the Board of the German Academic Exchange Service, as member of the “Language Advisory Board” of the Goethe Institute, as member of the Steering Committee “Global Education” of the British Council and as chair of the Advisory Board of the Academic Confucius Institute Göttingen. Her work experience encompasses internationalization of institutions, research as well as teaching and learning and intercultural communication. She developed many local, regional, national and international activities on internationalization, such as a general strategy for internationalization at home or for international cooperation in education (internationalization of teachers’ education, internationalization and digitalization of curricula, welcome services, integration strategy for migrants/refugees etc.) and has published many papers on internationalization at home and on intercultural studies. She is the recipient of an Honorary Professorship of the Beijing Foreign Studies University, China, and is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Nanjing University, China. Prof. Casper-Hehne held a variety of positions focusing on international higher education cooperation in research and teaching as well as strategy development: Member of the Ad-hoc Expert Group “European Universities” of the EU-Commission, member of the HERA-Board (Humanities in the European Research Area), member of the Executive Board of the European University Network COIMBRA, chair of the Association of German as a Foreign Language and chair of the Advisory Board of the German Ministry of Science and Education on developing a China-Strategy.
